On the Rock

It’s been a while since I updated – hard to keep up with everything that’s happened! My wife and I have relocated to St. John’s, NL, as she found a job at Memorial University. I’m looking forward to teaching, composing and performing here. I’ve completed my new album Opening and will release it on Oct 11.

My first new recording here is this loose interpretation of the Beatles’ classic “Michelle”, which I’d been working out in gigs at Aladdin Roastery and the Ottawa Guitar Society’s open mic nights: https://soundcloud.com/sundar-subramanian/michelle

Gig at/à Brûlerie Aladdin Roastery, May 11 mai

I’m going to perform again with David Campbell at 1:30 pm on Saturday May 11 at Aladdin Roastery at 774 Blvd St-Joseph in Gatineau (Hull). Spend the afternoon with a coffee and new guitar music!

Upcoming Performance

Going to play a solo set, with some new material, at the Happy Goat at 145 Main St., Ottawa, on Oct 20, with local guitar great David Campbell also doing a set. We plan to do a few duets as well.

Canada Day Recording

A quick, fun Canada Day project: yesterday morning, the great Canadian guitarist and educator Matt Warnock shared his arrangement and backing tracks for a solo over the changes of the Schwarz/Dietz standard “Alone Together”, in the style of the late Canadian guitar great Ed Bickert, using some direct quotes. To celebrate the day and pay tribute to two greats, I learned and recorded his arrangement by that night, adding my own solo just after 2:00.
